Area election filings

Web posted August 5, 2014
By Kate Perkins, Northland Press Correspondent

Area residents had their first opportunity to file and run for mayor or city council beginning Tuesday, July 29. As of that day, Crosslake officially has a mayoral race.

Both current mayor Darrell Schneider and current council member Steve Roe have filed to run for mayor. Currently Schneider is in his second term as mayor, and running for his third.

Roe is in his second term as council member, having taken office in 2007, and is running for his first term as mayor. Council members serve four year terms; the mayor serves a two-year term.

In Fifty Lakes, mayor Ken Hersey and council members Jodie Schrupp and Les Degner will see their terms end at the close of 2014. As of Friday morning, Aug. 1, none of them had filed for re-election.

Emily officials whose terms end in 2014 include mayor George Pepek and council members Jan Mosman and Dan Barrett. So far, no one has filed to run in Emily.

The city of Manhattan Beach could not be reached for filing results, but 2014 marks the end of the term of mayor Paul Allen and council members Clyde Brodt and Marlene Yurek.

Residents have until Aug. 14 to file to run for mayor or city council in their cities.
