Local Area Memorial Day ServicesWeb posted May 23, 2023 Crosslake Lutheran Memorial Sunday Worship Service May 28, 2023, 8:30 a.m. Crosslake Lutheran Church will again host a community observance of Memorial Day on Sunday, May 28th. A more traditional worship service will be held at 8:30 am in the sanctuary at Crosslake Lutheran Church across from the campground. The 10 am Outdoor Worship will feature a larger ‘community-wide’ Memorial Weekend observance. This is located at 14019 Daggett Pine Road, across from the Crosslake Community Center baseball field. Both services are open to the public. The celebration will include recognition of all veterans and military personnel in attendance, special music and guest speaker, Ken Neihart. Ken served 31 years in the Minnesota Army National Guard from 1964 to 1995. He received his commission at Fort Benning, Georgia in 1967 and retired in 1995 as a Colonel. He held various positions in the following National Guard Units: 47th Military Police Company, Troop Command, Headquarters 47th Infantry Division, Minnesota National Guard Military Academy, and Minnesota National Guard State Headquarters. He has been on State Active Duty five times during his time in the National Guard. Currently he has a son-in-law serving in The Minnesota Air National Guard and three uncles that served during the Second World War. His civilian occupations were a Police Officer for the city of St. Paul for six and a half years and a Biology Teacher at Tartan High School for thirty-one years. He and his wife, Barb, sold their home in Shoreview and moved full-time to Crosslake in 2022. The outdoor service will feature an aerial fly-over (weather permitting), the Crosslake-Fifty Lakes American Legion Post 500 Color Guard will provide appropriate honors to the colors and to the dead, including a bugler playing “TAPS.” Please join us to honor our troops, veterans, and country. Crosslake 2023 Memorial Day Ceremony Mon., May 29, 2023, 10 a.m. The annual Crosslake Memorial Day Ceremony, led by the Crosslake/Fifty Lakes American Legion Post 500, will be held at 10am on Monday May 29th at the Crosslake Pinewood Cemetery on County Road 36. Again this year we are pleased to have our Crosslake Fire Department participating with their 78 foot ladder truck displaying a large American Flag in the background. We are privileged this year to have Joel Carlton, our own Crosslake Fireman and first responder, as our guest speaker. Joel is a local contractor who has dedicated his life to serving our community. This annual ceremony is to honor and remember our Military Veterans who sacrificed their lives defending our country. We have 198 of our local veterans buried at Pinewood that are identified with individual American Flags at their gravesite and will be recognized individually during the ceremony. To begin the ceremony we raise the American Flag to half staff and say our pledge of allegience. The Ceremony will conclude with the Post 500 Color Guard providing Military Honors with the traditional rifle salute and the playing of Taps. Please come (bring lawn chairs and umbrellas if there is the possibility of inclement weather) and help honor and pay tribute to our deceased veterans who unselfishly served our country to preserve our freedom. Emily Memorial Day Service Mon., May 29, 2023, 9 a.m. Pine Ridge Cemetery will be the setting again this year for the Memorial Day Service on May 29 in Emily at 9 am. In the event of severe weather, the ceremony will be held indoors at the Emily City Hall gymnasium. All past or present military people are encouraged to attend the service and stand or sit behind the cross so they also can be honored as the names of deceased military personnel are read. Please come in your uniform or any part of your uniform if possible. This invitation includes current service or guard military. Members of the Lions of Emily, Outing, and Fifty Lakes, area churches, as well as the Mirin James Legion Post will be in attendance. The public should bring chairs for comfort during the ceremony. Please contact Barry at 651-328-1375 if you know of a name that should be added to our Memorial list. The United Methodist Church in Emily will host a reception following the service . They will be serving coffee and baked goodies. SWANBURG Cemetery Memorial Day Service Monday, May 29, 2023 11am Memorial Day is a time to solemnly remember, and a marker to ensure none of us ever forget, our fallen who devoted themselves to the cause of liberty. It is also a time to honor those who went missing in action and remain unaccounted for. Please join us for a commemorative service to remember the missing, and those fallen who died in service to our country. At this service we will also honor and name all the veterans buried at the Swanburg Cemetery. Pine River Legion Post 613 will provide military honors. The honored speaker will be Staff Sergeant Dallas John Peterson, Section Leader, Minnesota Army National Guard. The service will be held at Swanburg Cemetery, Swanburg.
