Recruitment Help for Businesses: Online tool connects local businesses to high school students

Web posted March 24, 2020
Bridges Career Academies & Workplace Connection is seeking entry level job positions for it’s Career Depot website, www.BridgesConnection.org/Jobs. All job postings are free, but this service is designed for entry-level style positions that 14-18 year olds can fill.

To post your available jobs, complete a simple online form at www.BridgesConnection.org/Jobs. Click the "Add a Job Posting” link on the right side of the page.

The Bridges Career Depot website is the only one in the region with job postings exclusively for high school students, 18 or younger. The Career Depot is actively promoted in local high schools and used as a classroom-tool by teachers and counselors.  It’s the integration into the academics that makes this program unique.

“There are lots of websites available with jobs,” said Mary Gottsch, Director of the Bridges Workplace Connection. “But none are for students, for firsttime job seekers.”

“We have such a strong relationship with area high schools," added Gottsch. “Teachers know the Bridges program offers students a powerful connection to the business community. Helping the two connect to find workers only seemed natural.”

Positions may be sorted by location, industry category or age requirement. The website is available throughout the year, but spring time — in preparation for the summer hiring season, is always the best time to make sure available jobs are posted. Jobs may be scheduled to run any time, but Bridges encourages businesses to keep their positions live on the website until early June. The height of the publicity of the website at area high schools is in April and May.

For assistance with creating job postings or for more information about this free service, email Erica at Erica@BridgesConnection.org, or call Bridges Executive Director, Mary Gottsch, at (218) 855-8161.

The Bridges Career Depot offers a collection of resources to help students explore careers, as well as find tips on how to complete applications, prepare for an interview, and more. Through classroom projects and extracurricular activities, area teachers, counselors, and staff will be encouraging students to use the Career Depot tools to explore future careers.

The Career Depot is just one of the programs of the Bridges Career Academies & Workplace Connection to better integrate work-based learning between schools and business. Other Bridges programs that offer a direct connection to business through career experience activities include business tours, speakers in the classroom and a career video library. Bridges’ academic enrichment program is called the Career Academies. These integrated courses focus on the knowledge and skills within a specific career field. Each course integrates technical skills and employability skills with realworld business and industry experiences.

All of these Bridges efforts are designed to help the next generation workforce become better prepared to meet the demands of local employers. Bridges is supported by Sourcewell and the Central Lakes Perkins Consortium. Learn more about the Bridges Career Academies & Workplace Connection by visiting www.BridgesConnection.org.
