Northland Arboretum Welcomes Applications for Board of Directors

Web posted August 16, 2022
Brainerd’s premier nature-focused nonprofit is seeking applications for its 2022-23 Board of Directors. The Board of Directors is responsible for upholding the policies and procedures of the Northland Arboretum as well as lead the organization’s strategic plan and financial accountability. The Northland Arboretum has seen some significant and exciting changes in the last few years, and they wish to continue that momentum with fresh ideas and energy from community members.

Executive Director Candice Zimmermann has led the organization for over two years and has moved the organization in a positive direction despite COVID-19 and revenue challenges. “The Northland Arboretum is more than just a greenspace. There are many moving parts that have made us into an exciting and engaging nature center for all ages. From kids nature camps, to adult gardening classes, to providing the community with fresh produce, we are an important part of the county and region,” says Zimmermann, “I think community members really want to be a part of the Arb’s growth and becoming a Board member is the perfect starting point.”

There are currently eight Board Members serving on the Northland Arboretum’s Board of Directors but Zimmermann would like to see more involvement and a diverse group of talent. “It’s about representing our community and making sure we are serving our members, community partners, and stakeholders the best way possible.” Board Members are responsible for attending Board meetings, assisting with fundraising events, sitting on ad-hoc committees, and providing guidance to the Executive Director concerning Arboretum policies. Board meetings are held on the fourth Thursday of every other month.

Applications can be turned into Candice Zimmermann, Executive Director ,by September 30, 2022. For more information on the Arboretum, current Board members, and a Board application, please visit www.northlandarb.org.
