Burglary suspect apprehended in Brainerd

On July 9, 2014 at approximately 7:18 a.m. the Crow Wing County Sheriff’s Office responded to a burglary in progress on Kappel Road, just south of the Welcome Center on HWY 371 south of Brainerd. A property owner who was checking on a shed on the property interrupted the burglary.
The suspect subsequently fled into a heavily wooded area. With the assistance of Baxter Police Department K9 “Gator” the suspect was tracked for over 1 mile before being located. The suspect, a 25 year old Brainerd man, was taken into custody without incident at 8:24 a.m.
The suspect is being held at the Crow Wing County Jail on several charges in including burglary, possession of burglary tools, and fleeing a peace officer on foot. Assisting the Crow Wing County Sheriff’s Office included the Baxter Police Department K9 Unit, Brainerd Police Department, and MN State Patrol.
Crow Wing County Sheriff Todd Dahl stated “I couldn’t be more proud of not only the officers involved but also the property owner. He was aware enough to call and get law enforcement involved right away and that was what made the case. I would also like to remind citizens to please remain vigilant and call 911 immediately if they observe any suspicious activity.”
