Saturday, October 20th is the date for the First Annual Rock It Forward Concert featuring Zeppo, playing the music of Led Zeppelin, with special guests, lakes area favorite Wyld Ryce, to benefit the Brainerd Lakes Pay It Forward Fund.
This all-ages event will be held at Pine Peaks Events Center, located at 39957 Swanburg Rd South, just south of CR 1 between Emily and Pine River, on Saturday, October 20, 2018 from 7pm to 11pm. Tickets are $20, with all ticket sales donated to the fund. Tickets are available online through Brown Paper Tickets and will also be available at the door. The Brainerd Lakes Pay It Forward Fund at the St Joseph's Foundation/Essentia Health was established by Wayne and Sylvia Swanson of Breezy Point. The fund was founded as a way to provide financial assistance for basic living expenses to lakes area residents who are undergoing cancer treatments. The Swansons have raised tens of thousands of dollars through their annual golf tournament every August. In addition to the music, there will be full bar service, non-alcoholic beverages and food available from Maucieri's on site.
Event organizer and Outing resident Paul Boblett stated, "We're very excited for this opportunity to help individuals and families in our community who may be struggling with a very serious health issue. When you’re battling cancer, the last thing you should have to worry about is how to make rent or put food on the table.”
“I don’t know anyone who has not been affected by cancer in some way, whether it’s a spouse, relative, friend or co-worker,” added Boblett. “Both my wife and I are cancer survivors, and those experiences have given us perspective on the difficulties patients face. This concert will be a super fun way to help others and have a great time doing it. The local business community has been amazingly supportive in many ways, especially Dave and Julie Peterson of Pine Peaks Event Center, who graciously donated their facility for the night.”
“Lastly, the timing of the concert is also great for the local residents,” said Boblett. “It’s tough to find the time to get out and have fun during the summer because everyone gets so busy, so we certainly hope they can join us for this.”
Zeppo is a Twin Cities-based band formed after an impromptu jam session in October of 2016. The band members all grew up listening to Led Zeppelin - and it could possibly be found in their DNA. The band is comprised of rock veterans including guitarists John Eller, Terry Fisher, drummer Noah Levy, bassist Paul Boblett, who along with keyboardist Zach Sershon, bring their full throttle and full throated love of Led Zeppelin to every performance.
Zeppo cuts a wide swath of the extensive Led Zep discography and their sets regularly including the memorable Kashmir, Ramble On, Black Dog, Rock and Roll, and some deeper cuts for diehard fans. For more information on the band, visit their Facebook page: facebook.com/zeppomn
Wyld Ryce is once again a lakes area staple. The band was hugely popular in the early 80’s and recorded and released two full length albums and a 45. They reformed in 2016 with all but one original member after a nearly 30-year hiatus.
Their recent local shows prove the group is still in top form. The band includes husband and wife John Palmer (vocals) and Vicki Palmer on keyboards, bassist Craig Englehart, guitarist Joel Jenkins, keyboardist Jim Cervin, and drummer Todd Johnson, who replaced original member Joey Peterson.
