| Breezy Point Council Sets Public Hearing Date for Road AssessmentsBy Paul Boblett, Editor At the regular monthly meeting of the Breezy Point City Council, the council unanimously approved a public hearing to be held at 7:00 pm on Monday, April 14, 2008 concerning the 2008 road improvement assessments. Calling for the final assessment will allow the council to hear from affected property owners as to the project and assessments. A total of three bids for the project were opened February 28, and the apparent lowest bid was from Anderson Brothers for a total of $364,473.84. City Administrator Brad Scott’s staff recommendation states that after the assessment hearing, the council will consider adopting the assessment role for certification, awarding the bid and calling for the improvements to be completed. Tax Forfeited Land Purchased Council Approved the purchase of tax forfeited parcels for park and trail purposes. Lots 5, 6 and 7 for Whitebirch 15 would be purchased using park dedication funds and was a high priority for the park commission for connecting current trails. Council recommended the trails be designated for non-motorized use. Proposed Plat Tabled The council tabled action on the planning commission’s recommendation to approve a consent to plat for Palmers Addition decision as requested by Sienna Corporation. If council approved the consent to plat, it would allow Sienna to include Outlot H of Deacon's Lodge Addition, which is located within the City of Breezy Point, in the project. David Landecker, representing Sienna, presented information to the council on the proposed Palmers Addition project that involves property both in the city of Breezy Point and in Pelican Township. Scott recommendation included tabling any action until a council subcommittee can revisit the previously submitted annexation petition. His report stated that the reasons for the recommendation principally include concerns with inadequate environmental control given a considerable amount of Outlot H is a wetland and the effects of the consent on the original plat of which Outlot H is currently a part of. Council appointed Mayor Weaver and councilman Erik Lee to a subcommittee that will meet with Landecker to look at all available possibilities. In other Council business: • Heard an update from Dr. Ryan Buell, chairman of the Governor’s Fishing Opener, which takes place the weekend of May 9-11.
