MINNESOTA•08 GOVERNOR’S FISHING OPENER

Despite chilly temperatures and getting out-fished by Lt. Governor Carol Molnau for the sixth straight year, Tim Pawlenty did manage to land a 17-inch walleye five minutes after 11 am on Saturday.

A few hours earlier, Molnau landed a 19-inch walleye near Lincoln Point on the south side of Pelican Lake.

Noting that it is the beginning of summer in Minnesota, Pawlenty dryly asked why he was in a snowmobile suit before leaving the Breezy Point docks with local guide Walleyedan Eigen.

The Governor’s hectic schedule on Friday was trying, but he made the most of every stop, taking time to visit with many residents and the media alike.

The Friday schedule included a live radio broadcast, and the ribbon cutting ceremony at the new Marina II restaurant and banquet facility at Breezy Point Resort, all before 10 am. He then went on a DNR tour of Pelican Lake and made stops at Wild Acres Game Farm, and the Pequot Lakes - Pine River baseball game, where he threw out the first pitch.

Then it was on to the Pequot Lakes Community Picnic, which included visits with the family of Dru Sjodin and members of the Pequot Lakes Legion, who dedicated a Purple Heart Memorial. Keys to Pequot Lakes and Breezy Point were presented by Mayors Joanne Weaver and Cathy Malecha.
