Rangers Rally Over Huskers, Earn 6AA Final

The Crosby-Ironton Rangers rallied to keep their dream of a perfect season alive with a thrilling 35-28 win over the visiting Holdingford Huskers (6-4) in the section 6AA semifinal on Saturday night.

Nathan Hudrlik’s 3-yard touchdown late in the fourth quarter, set up by a Mark Hoge interception broke a 28-28 tie to send the Rangers to a Friday night game against Pierz (9-1) at the Fargodome at 6:00 pm.

Down 14-0 in the first half, the Rangers came back to take a 28- 22 lead, but Holdingford rallied to tie the game. The Huskers chose to kick the extra point but the kick failed and left the game tied at 28 with just over 6 minutes left. Statistics were unavailable at press time.

Crosby-Ironton 35, W-DC 21
Phil Kuhlmann tossed three touchdown passes to lead C-I over visiting Wadena Deer Creek by a score of 35-21 in Section 6AA quarterfinal football action on Tuesday, October 27.

Nathan Hudrlik’s rushed for 139 yards on 10 carries and had touchdown runs of 6 and 45 yards for the Rangers.

C-I opened the scoring with a 16- yard strike from Kuhlmann to Justin Edmundson in the first quarter. Hudrlik then ran for his two scores to make the score 19-0 before Wadena got on the board from Aaron Kern’s 4-yard run just before halftime.

Kern opened the third quarter with his second touchdown to bring the Wolverines within 19-12 with a 5-yard run. Kuhlmann then hit Mitch Gutzman from 25 yards out to up the lead to 26-12 before Kern scored his third score of the game bringing WDC within seven points again.

Nathan Hudrlik’s 27 yard touchdown run in the final quarter closed the scoring. He finished with 75 yards on 15 carries.

Kuhlmann completed 5 of 15 passes and had as many interceptions as touchdowns. Gutzman had two catches for 47 yards and Mark Hoge gained 30 yards on two carries and had a catch for 25 yards.
