Crosslake American Legion Auxiliary “Makes a Difference”

The Crosslake American Legion Auxiliary hosted a very successful dinner and raffle at the Crosslake Legion on October 4th.

The purpose was to "Make A Difference" in helping to bring our troops back home safely, by purchasing GPS units for our troops stationed in combat zones in Iraq and Afghanistan.

The Auxiliary is working in conjunction with Gander Mountain who will be supplying the GPS units and embedding the microchips for the areas of the military activities. When the individual soldiers return home, they will then give the units to other servicemen serving in that same area of Iraq or Afghanistan.

The Auxiliary met their goal of raising enough money to purchase a minimum of 30 GPS units.

To make the event even more wonderful, was the attendance of three young men, serving our country from the 34th Military Police Company, 3rd Platoon, 1LT Ronald Saxton, SFC Brian Thole and SPC Jonathon Finnegan.

Their unit will be deployed the beginning of 2009, and will be receiving some of the GPS units. The service men were so grateful, and told of how they are needed, especially in the sand storms where they are not able to see where they are going. Also, "The Vets" donated their musical talents for the evening entertainment.

This will be an ongoing project of the Auxiliary. If anyone is interested in making a donation towards these GPS units, or continuing a similar project, contact Deanna Dubel, Auxiliary President at 218 765-3840.
