Fatal Canoe Accident on Fawn Lake

On April 26, 2008 at approximately 3:36 pm, the Crow Wing County Sheriff’s Office received a report of a missing person in Fawn Lake near Crosslake.

Two men had been canoeing in the lake when their craft overturned. Joshua A. Seehusen, age 20, of Sartell, MN made it to shore and called for help. The victim, Timothy R. Maehren, age 20, from Rice, MN went under water and did not surface.

The Crow Wing County Dive Team responded to the call and located the victim approximately 30 yards from shore in 17 feet of water.

The Crow Wing County Sheriff’s Office would like to remind the public that the water temperature this time of the year is extremely cold. A person looses body heat 25 times faster in water than by air. Remember to always wear your life jacket (PFD) and to stay with the watercraft if it does capsize or overturn.

The Crow Wing County Sheriff’s Office was assisted on scene by, Crosslake Police Department, The Breezy Point Police Department, The Pequot Lakes Police Department, The MN DNR, Crosslake Fire Department and North Memorial Ambulance Service.
