Visitors toured the 1900 Village lit by kerosene lanterns and were greeted by costumed volunteers in each furnished log building. Cookies and apple cider were served in the new Livery Building amid the many displays of artifacts including the Historic Whitefish Chain Mail boat. Strolling musicians, Kai and Bridget Allen provided music on violin and guitar. Children assembled in the first schoolhouse on the Whitefish Chain while teacher, Marcia Schoeb presented lessons. The General Store was open to customers, and lines were long as families waited for their turn on the horse drawn wagon ride operated by Chet and June Durm. Special guest, Courtanay VanFosson of Nisswa, demonstrated pioneer food preservation in the Ostlund Home. The culmination of the evening was the raffle drawing. The winner of the bird feeder was Bob Maciej of Zimmerman who has a seasonal home in Outing, Al Flemmer of Crosslake won the pair of framed logging prints and Deloris Rubald also of Crosslake won the iron welcome sign. This event marks the end of the season at the Crosslake Historic Log Village. The Village will open again to the public Memorial Weekend 2009. | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
