Birds of the Byway: Bird Walk at the Crosslake Dam on June 14th
Web posted June 10, 2014
Bird is the word this season on the Paul Bunyan SCENIC Byway.
It’s been impossible not to notice the happy chaos that is the spring migration this year in central Minnesota. The Paul Bunyan Scenic Byway Association is a longtime supporter of birding in this area. Look for the popular “Birds of the Byway” Birding Guide and Checklist in Information Centers and brochure racks around the Byway. Today there are two new reasons to crow about birding along the Byway.
Dave Badger and his grandson, Matt, volunteered their time and labor last May installing a lovely new warbler viewing bench at the Veterans Memorial Walking trail on CSAH 16. Using materials Badger donated, he and Matt located a prime spot for hikers to stop and rest while watching warblers and other feathered friends. A Bunyan-sized Thank you to Dave Badger, his grandson Matt, and all the volunteers who spend their time and resources improving this lovely trail.
Save The Date for BIRD WALK at the DAM. Sat. June 14 from 9:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. at the Crosslake Corps of Engineers Dam and Park. For more details and to sign up call Corrine at (651) 290-5793 or email: info@PaulBunyanScenicByway.org.
Sponsored by the PBSBA and Lake Country Crafts and Cones in Crosslake and hosted by the USACE-Crosslake, this will be the first of two birding events planned for the Crosslake Dam location. Local birder, Judd Brink of MN Backyard Birds will be the guide. Brink, recently featured on Ron Schara’s MN Bound, is an avid supporter of birding and landscaping for birds all around the Brainerd Lakes area.
