One of Crosslake’s only local bands will take the stage with 1970s rock ‘n’ roll hits on Saturday, July 26, as part of the Crosslake Outdoor Music Series in Town Square. The show begins at 7 p.m.

The band includes seven members, all of whom are locals: Brad Wallace with vocals, Jim Cervin on keys, Paul Boblett on bass, Bart Wallace on drums, Joel Jenkins on guitar, Jeff Boozell on guitar and Bethany Rohr on vocals. Boblett, also editor of the Northland Press, says the fact that everyone’s a local makes playing here a blast.

“The setting and the familiarity of the people that come make it really fun,” Boblett said, adding that the band loves playing for family and friends. Decade 7 has played the Crosslake Outdoor Music Series for three years now. They’ll play twice this summer, both July 26 and to finish out the series on Aug. 30.

“Decade 7” refers to the era of music the band plays - the 1970s.

“The original idea was to play music from after Woodstock and before MTV,” Boblett said. He said that era of music paid high attention to songcraft.

“There was a lot of craft and effort that went into making these songs.” That craft still exists, Boblett said, but it’s harder to find today.

The audience will recognize the songs Decade 7 plays as the well-known ‘70s songs they love. Decade 7 describes itself as playing songs “from Steely Dan to Chevy Van.” They also play music by The Eagles, Doobie Brothers, Paul Simon and many more. They don’t, however, stray much from the rock ‘n’ roll genre.

“If you listen to the radio, you’ll recognize every song we play,” Boblett said.

While the songs are recognizable, Boblett said few bands tackle this music, as they’re big songs that are vocally challenging.

Each member of Decade 7 has a long history in music, whether it’s with other bands or in Pequot Lakes Community Theater.

On behalf of the band, Boblett wanted to thank the Crosslake Outdoor Music Series, as well as the Pequot Lakes Music in the Park Series (which they also played this summer), for providing live music free to the community.

“It’s great that live music is being provided. It’s super family-friendly, and playing for kids is great,” Boblett said, remarking that it’s an experience kids might not otherwise get, as most music in the area is in bars or nightclubs.

The Crosslake Outdoor Music Series continues every Saturday at 7 p.m. through August in Town Square, under the gazebo. The performance schedule includes: Decade 7 on July 26, Patty and the Buttons on Aug. 2, Boss Grant: Johnny Cash Revue on Aug. 9, Jacob Martin Band on Aug. 16, Daybreak on Aug. 23 and Decade 7 on Aug. 30.
