Edina Realty Foundation Gives to Crisis Line Referral Center

Last week, Mary Marana, Executive Director of the Crisis Line Referral Center accepted a check from the Edina Realty Foundation in the amount of $1,000.

Marana presented information to the Edina Realtors about the Crisis Line work in the Brainerd Area. The Center serves Aitkin, Cass, Crow Wing, Todd, and Wadena Counties. She also emphasized that their 24-hour telephone crisis service center has seen a dramatic increase in calls since the economic downturn in recent months.

For example, the center averages about 175 calls in any given month but in August and September phone calls to the crisis line averaged 285 calls per month. Job loss, foreclosures, health and related family issues topped the precipitating factors increasing the number of phone calls seeking help according to Marana.

The center is staffed by volunteers who are well trained before beginning their critical work to the community and the volunteers must maintain continuing education credits throughout the year. If you are interested in volunteering at the center please contact Mary Marana at 218 828-4515.
