Crosslake Historic Log Village Offers Ancestry Presentation on July 24
Web posted July 16, 2019
Julie Jo Larson has visited many family, small and large cemeteries in the county. Through research at the Crow Wing County Historical Society, interviewing area historians, and by reading several history books, her group, the MsStorians, a women’s history group, has discovered that many local family cemeteries are lost. Julie Jo will share some cemetery lore and show photos of some of Crow Wing County’s oldest cemeteries.
The public is welcome. For those who are fascinated by an interest in family ancestry and historical sites in our area, this is for you.
Julie Jo Larson lives in the Brainerd Lakes Area with her husband Stephen and their mischievous pets. They have three grown children. She is a licensed social worker and is employed at Central Lakes College as the Assistant Director of TRIO Student Support Services. On weekends, Julie Jo dons a writer’s cap, specializing in regional history.
Julie Jo formed the MsStorians, a women’s history group who tour historic buildings, old cemeteries, and forgotten historical sites in search of adventure and lost history. She received a Five Wings Art Council Individual Grant in 2017 to complete the first draft of her novel, Sterling & Ebony.
The program will begin at 7:00 PM at the Historic Log Village in Crosslake. Refreshments will be served following the program with the opportunity to meet and greet Julie Jo. The presentation is sponsored by the Crosslake Area Historical Society and donations will be accepted.
