I scream, you scream... Ice Cream!

Web posted August 19, 2014
Some could take only tiny nibbles with their hands, while others dove in head-first. Lake Country Crafts and Cones held it's annual Ice Cream Eating Contest Thursday, Aug. 14. The contest was divided into several age groups, with each group having progressively more difficult rules.

Young competitors were allowed to pick up their bowls and use their hands, and had a break to prevent brain freeze. Older competitors, however, could not touch their bowl or eat with their hands, and were on their own when it came to brain freeze.

Perhaps the youngest player abandoned competition and ate only a few satisfactory bites using his fingers. Adult competitors saw the end of their round of competition in less than 30 seconds.

The winners of the preschool to five years division were, in first place, Brak Schramm , 5, of Pequot Lakes; in second, Brodie Schramm, age 3, of Pequot Lakes; and in third, Savannah John, 3, of Breezy Point.

In the 6-8 age group, the winners were, in first, Scott Norton, 8, of Rosemount; in second, Damon John, 6, of Breezy Point; and in third, Peter Nix, 8, of Aitkin.

The age 9-12 division showed many strong competitors. In first place is Colton Mak, 12, of Farmington; in second, River Sommerness, 9, of Breezy Point; and in third, Dylan Dopp, 10, of Delavan, MN.

The age 13-16 division had four winners, with two competitors tying for third place. In first is Tommy Harald, 16, of St. Michael; in second is Michael Voss, 16, of St. Michael; and tying for third is Cameron Steffen, 14, of Crosslake, and Alex Dahlen, 16, of Hartland, Minn.

The adult category had the most competitors. Adam Dahlen, 36, of Heartland, took first; Rick Dopp, 40, of Delevan, Minn took second; and Gil Statz 64, of Pierz, took third.
