Legion Baseball Roundup

Nisswa 5, Crosslake 0
The Crosslake Legion baseball team managed only 3 hits off in their 5-0 shutout loss to Nisswa on Monday, June 23. Crosslake held Nisswa to single runs in the each of the first four innings and gave up another in the sixth but could not get their offense untracked.

Ben Kepner led Crosslake going 2 for 3, and Jake Braam added the other. Nate Lehman pitched well for Crosslake giving up five hits and strking out six Nisswa batter. He walked three but was tagged with the loss.

Crosslake 11, Ironton 8

CL-FL/PL rebounded from their loss to Nisswa toughing out an 11-8 road win over Ironton on Tuesday, June 24. The seesaw game  featured several lead changes and 14 hits by the locals.

After Ironton took an early 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first, Tyler Wittwer tied the game with a second inning homerun.

Ironton took a 3-1 lead in the bottom of the second, but their advantage was short-lived as Crosslake exploded for four runs in the next frame behind huts by Jake Serfling, Brandon Hilts, Ryan Pahl, and Nate Lehman.

Ironton came right back in the bottom of the third scoring three runs and tying the game at 5-5 but in the fourth, Crosslakke came back once again to take an 8-5 lead with hits by Josh Rudbeck, Serfling, Hilts, and Ben Kepner.

The local nine added two more runs in the sixth with hits by Hilts and Pahl, and added an insurance run in the seventh with hits by Rudbeck and Serfling.

Kepner earned the win, giving up 6 hits and striking out 7, he walked 4. Chase Mason added a hit for the winning team.

Crosslake 3, Pierz 2
Crosslake bumped their record to 5- 2 by defeated Pierz 3-2 in a crisp well played game on Thursday, June 26.

The locals opended the scoring in the second inning on a single by Tyler Wittwer and a RBI triple by Tyler Wicker. In the third, CL-FL/PL added a run on hits by Ben Kepner and Wittwer. Pierz closed the gap to 2-1 adding a run in the fifth.

In the bottom of the fifth Crosslake scored the winning run as Kepner walked, then stole second and third, eventually scoring on a wild pitch. Pierz added a run in the sixth for the final of 3-2.

Jake Serfling also had a hit for the home team. Ryan Pahl earned the win with an outstanding game giving up only 4 hits, while striking out 2, and walking 2. Mike Weber took the loss for Pierz.

Crosslake-Fifty Lakes/Pequot Lakes travels to Aitkin tonight, and Thursday night will face McGregor at home. All games start at 6 pm.
