Americana and soul sounds will echo from the gazebo in Town Square on Saturday, Aug. 16 as Kurt Jorgensen Band takes the stage.
Based out of Minneapolis, the seven-person band is next to play in the weekly Crosslake Outdoor Music Series, which is each Saturday night through August at 7 p.m. Kurt Jorgensen Band is a change from the Outdoor Music Series poster. Due to scheduling conflicts, Kurt Jorgensen band will play instead of Jacob Martin Band. The band include Jorgensen, who plays guitar and sings, as well as keyboards, drums, bass, percussion and a female vocalist. Jorgensen said some of the band’s influences include Eric Clapton and Steely Dan. Formed in 1999, the band has eight albums, which they’ll have available at the show. Their latest album, Shadowlands, was released in the spring.
Jorgensen said that he was inspired to play music when he picked up two Beatles albums at a young age. He said he enjoys performing for the opportunity it gives him to meet new people, and he especially enjoys the Crosslake Outdoor Music Series, which the band has played before.
“It’s a great venue,” Jorgensen said of the series. “It’s not a bar or club so you get in front of some people you wouldn’t normally get in front of-- it’s extra fun for us in that regard.”
Following Kurt Jorgensen band, only two more shows remain in this summer’s Crosslake Outdoor Music Series. Daybreak plays Aug. 23, and Decade 7 will close out the season on Aug. 30. All shows begin at 7 p.m.
