Wooded Trails for Outdoor Activities in Crosslake
Web posted October 22, 2013
Attention all nature and wildlife lovers: Look beyond the tennis courts and baseball fields, at the Community Center, and you will discover a picturesque woodland oasis called the Nordic Ridge Recreation Area. This wooded area offers an abundance of outdoor activities that beg to be explored: hiking, bird watching, viewing spectacular “fall colors”, photography, berry picking, cross country skiing, geocaching or simply enjoying a walk with your furry companion.
The Crosslake Parks & Recreation Department, along with volunteers, have been quietly working for years to develop the Nordic Ridge Recreation Area for public enjoyment. Many of the trails have been widened within the past two years and grass seed has been planted to enhance many of the pathways. The outer boundary currently reaches six (6) miles, with many inner-looping trails. Special attractions along the pathways include stunning views overlooking two lakes, water fowl, an osprey nest, majestic red pine trees, and an abundance of wildlife. The breathtaking scenery is sure to amaze everyone who explores these trails.
The Nordic Ridge Recreation Area is a very unique and, yet, unknown attraction. Expansion plans are in-the-making but necessitate funding.
The PAL Foundation of Crosslake (Parks & Library) has initiated a strategy to promote awareness and fundraising. It’s hopeful the trails will become a popular destination within our community.
