The Second Annual Rib Cook Off For Veterans event held Sunday July 8 on the Crosslake Town Square was a success according to its organizers. “It doesn’t matter if we raise $10 or $3,500 like we did last year, when 100 percent goes to veterans in need, it’s worth it,” said Bob Hannahs, owner of Qing for Communities the event organizers. Proceeds from the event went to the Minnesota Assistance Council for Veterans (MACV), which provides housing, employment, and legal assistance to Minnesota veterans. Paul Pedersen, Outreach Manager for MACV, said all of the proceeds will go to direct services for veterans.
A nice crowd enjoyed a sun drenched afternoon on Town Square and were entertained by the band Acme All Stars while sampling barbequed ribs served up by vendors from around the area. A team of judges had the delicious duty of judging the entrants’ ribs. Set It and Forget It of Crosby won the first place prize of $1,500. Smoke Addiction placed second and won $800. Firestone BBQ was the third place winner and donated its $500 prize to MACV.
