CCS Holds Annual Spelling Bee

The Crosslake Community School held their annual Spelling Bee on Thursday, February 4. Parents and classmates filled the gym to watch 12 students take part in the contest.

The eventual winner was sixth grader Christopher Trana, who won by correctly spelling the word “chemical”.

By virtue of the win, Trana will travel to Brainerd to take part in a regional Spelling Bee on February 19.

Second place finisher Ethan Gibbs lasted into the seventh round but misspelled the word “commentary” allowing Trana the opportunity to win.

Finishing in a tie for third place were Amanda Liekvoll and Dylan Nelson.

Participants included fourth graders Tori Popehn, Sammie Swanson and Kayla Richie; Fifth graders Liekvoll, Nelson, and Darion Anderson; Sixth graders Trana, Gibbs, and Sam Hendricksen; Seventh graders Taylor Snow, Taylor Swanson and Kyler Huckabay; and Eighth graders Kolton Croak, Mikayla Erickson and Samantha Snow.

The winners of the school’s K-3 Spelling Bee were Evan Mykkanen, Evelyn Watson and Erin Gray.
