Snowmobile Crash on North end of Cross Lake
Web posted January 19, 2021
Sheriff Scott Goddard reports that on Monday, January 11, 2021, at approximately 1:26 pm, Crow Wing County Dispatch received a call of a snowmobile crash with injuries occurring on the north end of Cross Lake, East of the Wharf channel.
The driver, Peter King, a 59-year old male from Andover, Minnesota, struck an ice ridge on the lake, causing the snowmobile he was operating to roll over. King was riding near a marked trail system on the lake, but not on it. King sustained a possible leg injury because of the crash, and was transported via North Ambulance to CRMC in Crosby.
Sheriff Goddard would like to remind snowmobilers to always ride in groups, stay on marked trails, and drive at safe speeds. Ice conditions can change daily, and even marked trail systems can have dangerous obstacles that can be difficult to navigate if driving at a high rate of speed.
Assisting the Sheriff’s Office at the scene were the Crosslake Police Department, the MN DNR Enforcement Division, the Crosslake Fire Department, and North Ambulance.
