Crosslake Train Club Decked Out for Holidays
Web posted December 10, 2013
The train club in Crosslake (NMRHA) has spruced things up for their visitors this holiday season. The Christmas Train is running, and there are several displays of Christmas train villages and other décor inside and outside the facility. A scaled replica of the actual remodeled Saint Paul Union Depot (SPUD) is nearly finished, and is on display on the O-gauge layout at the club. The SPUD has been designed and built by club members and is a work of art. It’s worth a trip to the club just to see that replica on display.
Club members come from all over the area -- from Mille Lacs, Aiken, Brainerd, Ossipee , Crosslake, Hackensack and elsewhere. The NMRHA is always looking for new members- people who want to learn about model trains or train history, or just want to “play” with model trains. It’s a great opportunity to learn how to build your own model train and scenery, make new friends, and attend train shows with other members - like the show in St. Cloud in March 2014. The club has monthly social events, and members and spouses will be celebrating together again this year at an annual Christmas Party at Antler’s in Breezy Point.
Stop and see the trains and layouts, meet some members, and have fun! It’s a great thing to do on a cold winter day. Members will operate and explain the trains and layouts, and can provide a history of the trains that ran here in the Brainerd Lakes area and surrounding northcountry. There is a train that children can operate and a store to purchase an engineer hat or a good book about trains for your favorite train-loving kid or adult. There is an operating telegraph system and you can try sending a message in Morse Code.
The train club is located on City Road 3, just south of Crosslake. It is open to the public on Saturdays from 10am-2pm. If you are a large group of 10 or more people, and would like to arrange a special visit (such as a birthday party), please call 218- 821-8357 for a tour during the week. If you have a train set or cars/scenery you’d like to donate and get a tax deduction, stop in with your items. All aboard to join the fun- the more the merrier!
