7th Annual Crosslake Winterfest

The seventh annual Crosslake Winterfest drew hundreds of residents and visitors to the area to take part in many winter themed activities on Friday and Saturday, Feb. 6-7.

The Winterfest Medallion was found late Saturday afternoon by Jimmy Martin of Crosslake. Martin’s find earned him a large gift basket loaded with gift certificates and prizes from local merchants and restaurants. The cash value of the prizes in the basket was valued at $675.

The event kicked off at the Crosslake Community School’s Cabin Fever that featured an Art and Bake Sale and other family oriented activities.

The Crosslake Community Center hosted pond ice-skating, horse drawn sleigh rides, refreshments, a bonfire and a 20-foot high snow mountain for kids to play on.

In all there were 19 participants for Soupfest, and for the first time the participants sold commemorative mugs in an effort to go ‘green’. All 500 cups were sold and every participant ran out of soup well before the afternoon was over.

The winners of the 2010 “Golden Ladle” were Riverside Inn and chef Bonnie Mudek with her Peanut Sweet Potato Soup in the Professional Division, and the Non-Pro Division winner was Kristi Kraemer of Lakes Area Gallery and Frame Shoppe, with her Chicken Taco Soup.

There were tournaments including Ping Pong at the Wharf, and Bocce Ball at Riverside Inn. Other events included Ice Car Racing on Big Pine Lake, Human Bowling at Manhattan’s, and Helicopter Rides, Radar Runs and Kid’s games at Moonlite Bay.

Ice Carving demonstrations by Tyler Pearson of Metro Ice Creations were held at Town Square from 10 am to 5 pm on Saturday.

A portable fish house drawing was held at Moonlite Square and Liquor and out of around 10 entries; the winner was Bruce Nick of Crosslake.
