Crosslake Woman Charged with Felony

A Crosslake woman was charged last week with felony counts of aggravated forgery and check forgery of $2500 or more.

Sarah Barnum, age 31, was arrested by Pequot Lakes Police on Thursday Feb. 4.

According to the criminal complaint filed Thursday, Feb. 4, in Crow Wing District Court, Barnum admitted to stealing from the PTA accounts of Eagle View Elementary School in Breezy Point.

The complaint states that Barnum admitted to stealing from the PTA accounts on Sept. 21, the same day she  was named a co-treasurer.

She admitted to forging PTA president Jill Andersen's name, and two other PTA board members' names, on numerous checks, and then used the money to pay bills, stay at hotels, buy food and pay a collection agency.

The complaint states that at least 40 forged checks were written from the accounts.

Barnum was released on $500 conditional bail from Crow Wing County Jail the same day as her arrest. Her next court date is scheduled for April 12.
