Tactical Response and Crisis Negotiation Teams take man into custody without incident

On August 23, 2014 at 10:05 a.m. the Crow Wing County Sheriff’s Office responded to a report of a welfare check at 20030 Tower Road, located in Irondale Township of Crow Wing County. When Deputies arrived on scene they observed a female lying on the ground outside the residence.
Deputies spoke with the female who stated she had been pushed to the ground and threatened with a gun by her adult son who was still in the residence. Deputies safely removed the female from the scene and set up a perimeter. The Crow Wing County Tactical Response Team, Crisis Negotiation Team and Bomb Response Team responded to the location. The adult male, Paul Strom age 55, communicated with officers until 2:47 hours, at which time he came out of the residence and was taken into custody without incident. He is in custody awaiting formal charges of 2nd degree assault, terroristic threats and felon convicted of a crime of violence in possession of a firearm.
The case remains under investigation by the Crow Wing County Sheriff’s Office. Also assisting at the scene was the Crosby PD, MN State Patrol, North Ambulance and the Deerwood Fire Department.
