Important change to Valuation Notices that will be mailed soon

Web posted March 12, 2019
Crow Wing County property owners will soon be receiving both their annual notice of property valuation and classification for taxes payable next year, and their tax statement for taxes due this year. Both of these notices will arrive in one envelope.

The notice of property valuation and classification shows the 2019 value and classification of the property for taxes payable in 2020. Property owners are encouraged to review current valuation and classification because these will be relied upon to determine taxes due in 2020. Property owners are encouraged to contact the Crow Wing County Land Services Department with any questions about their 2019 valuation or classification reported in the notice.

The 2019 tax statement also included in the mailing shows taxes due this year. The amount owed is determined by applying last year’s property valuation and classification to this year’s spending levels approved by local units of government. Each tax statement shows the amount of tax dollars that need to be paid, and by when, in 2019. First-half of 2019 property taxes are due May 15 for most property classifications. Payments after May 15 will be subject to penalties.

The most significant change that you will notice on your tax statements and valuation notices this year is the parcel identification numbers. They have been changed from a 15-digit number to an 8-digit number. The id is compiled of these numbers:

• The first two numbers indicate the city or township the property is located in.

• The second two numbers indicate what section the property is located in or indicate personal property/severed mineral interest.

• The last four numbers are random.

The new parcel numbers will be used for all online and phone payments, as well as any parcel research. The old parcel id’s will be linked to the new parcel id’s and will be searchable on the County’s website so property owners will be able find the new number should they misplace their tax statements and value notices.

Taxpayers are encouraged to contact the Land Services Department with any questions they may have about their properties valuation and classification, or their 2019 tax statement. Taxpayers may visit the office located in Brainerd on the main floor of the Land Services Building, 322 Laurel Street. They may also contact Land Services at 218-824-1010, by email address at: landservices@crowwing.us, or by visiting the website at www.crowwing.us
