Cuyuna Area Connections Offers Honoring Choices Advance Care Planning via Zoom April 21 and 28
Web posted April 20, 2021
In March, Cuyuna Area Connections hosted an Honoring Choices Advance Care Planning Facilitator training for Cuyuna Regional Medical Center staff, community volunteer leaders, and Central Lakes College Registered Nursing faculty and students. Funding for this offering was provided by Sourcewell through their 2020 Innovation Funding Grant.
Darci Goeden was one of the Central Lakes College RN instructors who became a certified Honoring Choices Facilitator in partnership with Cuyuna Area Connections. She has been a Registered Nurse for 24 years, and currently is an RN instructor at CLC and has been for the past 19 years. Golden said she also stays current with her skills by being a casual float RN for Essentia Health St Joseph’s Medical Center.
“I am super excited to have completed the Honoring Choices MN training for Advance Care Planning,” stated Goeden. “This is a very important topic in healthcare and something that we as nurses see quite regularly.’
She added that “many of us put on the ‘to do list’ that never gets done or never takes priority to get completed and yet it can be so critical at any point in one's life should an unexpected health event occur.”
On April 28, Central Lakes College will be hosting a virtual offering surrounding Advance Care Planning that will take place at 12:00 pm. You will hear from Goeden and another RN student to share information regarding Advance Care Planning, including Honoring Choices Advance Care Plans; the importance of, and what to consider when choosing a healthcare agent; and how to have difficult end of life discussions with loved ones regarding their own values, treatment goals and wishes.
