Cuyuna Lakes Mountain Bike Crew hosts third annual Whiteout

Web posted February 25, 2014
The Cuyuna Lakes Mountain Bike Crew, with the assistance of numerous local and national partners will host the third annual Cuyuna Lakes Whiteout, presented by 45NRTH on Friday, February 28th and Saturday, March 1st. Friday events will include a Fish Fry in Ironton to be followed by guided winter mountain bike night rides in the Cuyuna Country State Recreation Area. A guided snowshoe trek is also planned.

Saturday is the 45NRTH Iron Yeti SnoXross Race, the big winter mountain (fat) bike race, and the really big news is that with the help of the Cuyuna Lakes Mountain Bike Crew the fat bike event is now a "point-to-point" race covering a large segment of Cuyuna's now internationally acclaimed singletrack trails.. Point-to-point races are relatively rare in all forms of bicycle racing and especially so in the new and exponentially growing sport of winter mountain biking; the Cuyuna Lakes area is "On the Map", offering something no other venue in the region has the ability to provide!

Starting at the Sagamore access, the race will follow a variety of trails through the Cuyuna Country State Recreation Area. The dramatic finish will be at the Croft Mine parking lot just north of Crosby. Race registration for the big race will be capped at 300 participants and there will be no race day sign-up. If interested in racing, please sign up online (address below). There are no limits on spectators, and preferred viewing of racers can be found at various points along the route, including downtown Riverton.

Saturday afternoon will find racers and spectators converging at Serpent Park in Crosby; an ice race, cycling radar run and other activities are planned,  culminating in an awards ceremony. For more info, please visit: http://cuyunalakeswhiteout.com/

The Crew would also like to extend a thank you to the Sno-Serpents Snowmobile Club of Deerwood through their support of the Whiteout race course utilizing segments of the snowmobile trail allowing for a naturally connected race course. This is a great example of multiple user groups working together for a best possible product.

The Cuyuna Lakes Whiteout is hosted in the Cuyuna Country State Recreation Area by the Cuyuna Lakes Mountain Bike Crew. The Crew is a 100% volunteer organization, and the Whiteout is their largest fundraiser; all profits are reinvested in Cuyuna trails. The Crew's vision is for our region to be an international, year-round, family cycling destination through positive thinking, respect, hard work and safety. Their mission is stated: "Maintain our trails, expand our Ride Center, and strengthen our local communities through active living and cycling."
