Hallett Trust awards Chamber and Cuyuna Lakes Trail Association $15,000 grant for conservation consulting

The Hallett Trust Foundation recently awarded the Chamber and Cuyuna Lakes Trail Association $15,000 for the purposes of engaging in consulting services with Conservation Strategies, Inc.
The grant award is the result of a collaborative effort between the Cuyuna Lakes Trail Association and the Cuyuna Lakes Chamber. The two organizations began discussions this past spring related to fostering a shared vision, developing strategies and identifying funding sources, in support of expanding our paved trail system and construction of new mountain bike trails in and around the Cuyuna Lakes State Recreational Area.
The grant award matches funds already provided by the Cuyuna Lakes Trail Association and a private donor. Funds will go to provide financial support in obtaining consulting services and achieving specific deliverables determined by Conservation Strategies, Inc. Although the agreement is between the Cuyuna Lakes Chamber and Conservation Strategies, it identifies the Cuyuna Lakes Trail Association as a major stakeholder for strategy development and the grant’s fiscal agent.
“There is obvious momentum and a positive energy in and around the Cuyuna Lakes as a result of the paved and mountain biking trails we have to offer.” says Chamber President, Jon Rauen. “Other communities are developing their own trail systems in response to the growing popularity of cycling. We can’t rest on our past successes, rather there’s a need to continue visioning, planning and identifying funding sources for future expansion, if our community is to realize the full economic potential our trails provide.”
It is anticipated throughout the eighteen month contract, Conservation Strategies will assist in the development of shared strategic planning and providing legislative consulting services in support of established program goals.
“Conservation Strategies has a proven history of opening legislative and other funding source doors for community leaders like those actively involved in our trails to seek program support,” says John Schaubach, CLTA Chairman. “We are both excited and confident our collaborative efforts will bring a positive return to the Cuyuna Lakes Community, thru further growth and expansion.”
The mission of the Hallett Charitable Trusts is to strengthen the Crosby Community and designated non-profit organizations through financial support and maintain the Hallett Charitable Trusts as a financial resource for future generations.
The Cuyuna Lakes Trail Association and the Cuyuna Lakes Chamber of Commerce are grateful for the continued support of Hallett Charitable Trusts to help the city. The Chamber will provide updates on progress as the efforts to bring positive change to local communities continues.
