Unique Learning Opportunity for Students at Emily Charter School

The second week of school started with a very unique opportunity at the Emily Charter School. Mrs. Amsden, a classroom teacher, spotted a dead mature eagle on the side of County Road 3 between Crosslake and Fifty Lakes. After pulling over and contacting the authorities, Mrs. Amsden brought the eagle to school to wait for Conservation Officer Nikki Shoutz to arrive. All of the Emily Charter School students were able to observe the eagle. The fifth and sixth grade students had the opportunity to examine the eagle more closely. They found the eagle's wingspan to be about 75 inches. Also, the beak was 4 inches, talons were 2-1/2 inches, and the eagle weighed about 10 pounds. This experience is just one of they many reasons why our area is a special place to live. The school thanks Mrs. Amsden for a wonderful opportunity to appreciate science!
