The City of Emily Begins Comprehensive Plan Update

Web posted May 26, 2020
Emily, MN – The City of Emily is in the process of updating its Comprehensive Plan and is seeking community input to help create community-developed goals and aspirations to guide future planning efforts.

In essence, a comprehensive plan is an expression of the community’s vision for the future and a strategic map to reach that vision. Comprehensive planning is an important tool for cities to guide future development of land to ensure a safe, pleasant, and economical environment for residential, commercial, industrial, and public activities.

All Emily area residents, business owners, community groups, students, artists, and others are asked to participate in one or more of the following activities to share their views and help shape the plan: community open houses, online surveys, round-table and one-on-one discussions, and focus groups. These input opportunities will be available over the course of the project. A community survey will be available this summer and other distant engagement opportunities are being explored in light of current circumstances and social distancing requirements.

A steering committee has been appointed by the city, made of eight members that represent the local business community, citizens at large, and other various stakeholders from the area. The role of the steering committee is to collaborate with and involve stakeholders to ensure that community aspirations and concerns are understood, considered, and reflected in the plan. It’s expected that the Comprehensive Plan will be adopted next spring.

The City of Emily is working in collaboration with Sourcewell. Sourcewell’s comprehensive planning partnership represents a united goal for efficiencies in government.
