Planting Trees in Emily for Earth Day

To commemorate Earth Day, approximately 25 third and fourth grade students from the Emily Charter School braved chilly temperatures and a driving rain to plant over 200 trees at the Emily Cemetery on Friday, April 26.

The Emily City Council hosted a noon lunch for the students, who were treated to pizza and homemade cookies at City Hall. Council members Joan Hite, Gary Hanson, Dan Barrett, Mayor George Pepek and Deputy Clerk Christa Andrews served food and visited with the students and their teachers.

After lunch, there was a demonstration on the proper way to plant seedlings given by Para-Professional Robin Ward and a few students.

Following the demonstration, the kids boarded the school bus and headed to the new portion of the cemetery to plant the trees.
