The State Highway 6/CSAH 1 reconstruction project in Emily is now completed and that was celebrated with a ribbon cutting ceremony on Wednesday, August 29th.
Several residents, local politicians, city staff, and county and highway department officials were present for the event.
Emily Mayor Buddy Lund addressed those attending and said “This [reconstruction] is the largest project ever completed in the city’s history. A major concern was keeping northbound traffic open for the public and businesses. and the second was providing parking on Highway 6, I believe MnDOT did an exceptional job of these concerns – the City of Emily is very proud of the completion of Highway 6 and CSAH 1.”
Lund added, “We as a city also purchased the this parking lot (located on the southwest corner of the Hwy 6 and CSAH1 intersection) and had DeChantal Construction complete the construction of the lot and both alleys, behind [ACE] Hardware and Emily Meats. The working relationship the city had with MnDOT, and DeChantal made this a great project.”
The project included the complete pavement, access and roadbed reconstruction of Highway 6 through town. Other items that were addressed and completed were the installation of an underground storm sewer system and water retention pond, new curbs, gutters and sidewalks, total reconstruction of the intersection of Hwy 6 and CSAH 1, and rebuilding the south access to South Bay Drive.
The new city parking lot is centrally located in downtown and provides a safe parking area for all local business customers.
