NMRHA Raffle Winner, Ken Wagner, Takes Model Train Home to Family
Web posted January 14, 2014
Congratulations to the Wagner family! Ken Wagner from Elk River won the O scale model train and layout raffled off by the Northern Minnesota Railroad Heritage Association (NMRHA). The train club is also known as the Northern Trackers. Ken was a frequent visitor at the train club in 2013 and bought several raffle tickets, saying he was "making a donation towards the organization”.
The drawing was held at noon on December 7, 2013. Mr. Wagner picked up the layout on December 14th, a snowy Saturday morning. After getting it home, he said everything was perfect. They got the layout to Elk River without any problems on the trailer. The layout was safe and dry when they unloaded it on site. They clamped it together and plugged it in and away it went. Everyone was ecstatic at the Wagner household. His three year old grandson (shown in the picture) is thrilled.
The members of the train club started putting together the framework for the O scale layout last January. Then, with the help of the O scale committee members, the track was laid and scenery installed. They spent the next several months selling 600 raffle tickets at $5 each. The layout was on display at the club and was brought to several other venues, including the Crow Wing County Fair, the Longville Fly In, and the St. Cloud model train show. The layout and train was so well liked by those who saw it that the limited number of raffle tickets was sold out by the end of September.
Proceeds from the 2013 raffle will be used to build another layout to be raffled in 2014. Club members are already working on a track plan and will soon build the framework. Visitors to the club can see the new layout and scenery come together as construction progresses, and buy raffle tickets starting in late spring. If you like to work on model trains, or want to learn how, join the club and pitch in. Visitors and new members are always welcome!
The train club is located on Cty Road 3, just south of Crosslake. It is open to the public on Saturdays from 10am-2pm. If you are a large group of 10 or more people, and would like to arrange a special visit (such as a birthday party), please call 218-821-8357 for a tour during the week. If you have a train set or cars/scenery you’d like to donate and get a tax deduction, stop in with your items.
