Bright Honored for 23 Years of Service as a Fifty Lakes Firefighter

During the Tuesday, December 8 regular meeting of the Fifty Lakes City Council, retiring volunteer firefighter William Bright was recognized. Bill served the community 23 years from 1986-2009.

Mayor Dick Schiller presented Bright with a plaque, and members of the Fifty Lakes volunteer fire department also presented a special retirement gift, a snowsuit for ice fishing, which he hopes to do a lot of this winter.

Bill is a part-time truck driver and has grown children and one granddaughter who resides in Crosslake.

Bill’s most memorable experience during his tenure was his initial training in Staples. He could not believe how intense and explosive a fire could become. He said that is when he realized how important firefighters are to any community.
