Ideal Community Service Organization 2017 Annual Meeting summary
Web posted February 13, 2018
The Ideal Community Service Organization (ICSO) annual breakfast membership meeting was held in October 2017 at Old Milwaukee Saloon and Eatery.
Thanks to a $10,000 donation ICSO received in 2015 from the Lakes Area Medical Development Association Fund, a Turn Key fund of the Initiative Foundation, ICSO donated $10,000 to Ideal Township for a natural gas stand-by generator as part of the Township’s initiative to improve public safety in response to recent extreme weather events in the area which caused widespread extended power outages. Having a standby generator at the Community Center means the Township government and fire department can function uninterrupted in the event that there is a power outage.
The Ideal Scholarship Foundation awarded three scholarships to the 2017 graduating class for a total of $8,000.00. Since 1992 the Foundation has awarded 138 scholarships totaling $217,00.00. The Foundation is in the process of following-up with award recipients from the years 1981-1992 to see what career choices were chosen. Adult scholarships are now available. For qualifications, application and other details go to: www.idealtownship.com - click Resources, then Adult Scholarships.
Each year ICSO members select one particularly outstanding community member as Ideal Community Service Organization's Volunteer of the Year. For 2017, congratulations goes to Mary Jo (MJ) Schneider for her dedicated volunteerism: board member, secretary ICSO; member, volunteer Ideal Green Market Co-op; Ideal Sno Pros board member, secretary, event volunteer; Safety Kids weeklong summer program in Pequot Lakes; St. Alice Catholic Church teaching catechism; member, volunteer and many years as social director for Whitefish Area Property Owners Association. All this and working as substitute teacher at Eagle View Elementary for many years, MJ has helped a lot of people, both young and old.
In 2017 ICSO also donated to: Christmas For Kids; Christmas Wreaths For Veterans; three area food shelfs-Crosslake, Lakes Area, and Pine River; Fun Books For Kids; Ideal Scholarship Foundation; Ideal Volunteer Fire Dept.; Linda Ulland Memorial Gardens; Grad Blast for both Pequot Lakes and Pine River-Backus High Schools; Senior Nutrition Site-Pine River (LSS); Paul Bunyan Scenic Byway Assoc.; Rollie Johnson Natural and Recreational Area; and The LAKE Foundation.
Donations wouldn't be possible without the generous support of ICSO members, volunteers and our charitable gambling sites Bites Grill & Bar, in Pine River and Old Milwaukee Saloon & Eatery, in Ideal Corners.
