| Dick Wilske presents Larry Knutson with the 2009 Ideal Community Service Volunteer of the Year award - photo submitted | Ideal Community Service Volunteer of the YearOn October 10, 2009 at the Annual Meeting and Breakfast of the Ideal Community Service Organization at The Old Milwaukee Club in Ideal Corners, the 2009 Volunteer of the Year award was given to Larry Knutson, long time Ideal Corners Resident. The award was presented by Dick Wilske, the 2008 Volunteer of the Year recipient. Some of Larry’s many logged hours of volunteer time include some of the following activities: • The Ideal Volunteer Fire Dept. Larry has logged 25 years of service with the fire department. He helped build the fire hall in the early days of the organization. He is a charter member and served as Safety Officer, Secretary of the Relief Association, and he was the photo historian. • Boy Scouts He was a Scout Master in the Boys Scouts for over 25 years. He received the award for “Scouter of the Year” and was awarded the “Silver Beaver Award” which is one of the highest possible awards presented to an adult leader. Larry used his vacation time in the summer for scout camp. • Veterans Walking Trail Larry helped build the Veterans Walking Trail off of County Road 16 on Cone Road. He removed 120 stumps free of charge with his stump grinding business. • Our Saviors Lutheran Church He has been on the Church Council for 4 years and President of the Congregation for the past two years. Larry was instrumental in such projects as building a handicapped ramp, relighting and recarpeting the Sanctuary, reroofing the parsonage and garage, updating the Church Constitution, and has been a member of this church since birth. • Kimble Lake Association He is one of the founding fathers of the Kimble Lake Homeowners Association. Served on the Board of Directors and assisted in obtaining an IRS Non-Profit Status. Larry has been placing and removing the lake buoys every year for the past 20+ years. • Foreign Exchange Student Program Larry was the area coordinator for AYA, an Exchange Student Program for 10+ years. He placed students with host families and then continued to supervise those students and families throughout their visit in the U.S. • Ideal Community Services Organization Larry has been our Gambling Manager since 1988. ISCO’s purpose is to grant scholarships to graduating high school seniors from the Ideal Township for post secondary education. The organization receives its donations from its annual membership fees and from ongoing pull-tab gambling at the Old Milwaukee Club in Ideal Corners and from the Underdogs Bar and Grill in Jenkins. Underdogs Bar and Grill currently also has a meat raffle on Saturday afternoons and Bar Bingo on Sunday afternoons. Nominations can be made for Volunteer of the Year by anyone in Ideal Township by sending the candidates resume to: ICSO, PO Box 751, Pequot Lakes, MN 56472.
