Carbon Monoxide Suspected in Couple’s Death

Longville, MN - Cass County authorities report last week that two people were found dead in a rural Longville cabin on Saturday, October 17 at approximately 12:45 pm.

Relatives arriving at the residence alerted authorities who responded to the scene. The two deceased individuals have been identified as Lee Schwarze, age 58 and Nancy Schwarze, age 55, of Hutchinson, MN.

The couple’s 22-year old son, Michael Schwarz, also of Hutchinson was found in the cabin unconscious and was transported to HCMC in Minneapolis.

Authorities suspect a poorly ventilated gas heater as the cause of the deaths.

According to the Center for Disease Control, approximately 500 die from unintentional, non-- fire-related CO poisoning. The majority of exposures occurred during the fall and winter months, when persons are more likely to use gas furnaces and heaters.
