Manhattan Beach Council August Highlights

(Editor’s note: The following article was written from the approved minutes of the regular monthly meeting of Manhattan Beach City Council held on Tuesday, August 3, 2021.)

The Manhattan Beach City Council met in session August 3, 2021 for their regular monthly meeting. The following officers were present: Mayor Paul Allen; Council members Rob Amundson and Barb Hanson-Wannebo; and Clerk-Treasurer Marlene Yurek. Council member Janis Allen was absent.

Council approved the agenda and consent calendar as printed.

Clerk-Treasurer Report
Council approved the the claims and receipts list as presented, including Crow Wing Power bill. Though the current bank statement was unavailable, the bank statement from last month was attached and balanced.

Planning & Zoning
The only report from Planning & Zoning was the SSTS Inspection required regarding the Manhattan Beach Lodge septic overflowing issue, dated July 15th. The only comment from the Mayor was the inspection report was extended from July 30, 2021 to August 13, 2021. August 13th was the first available date for an inspection.

New City Hall Well
Mayor Allen contacted Northland Drilling and Blue Water Wells concerning a new well for the City Hall building. Blue Water Wells responded and said a new well would have to be put in the southeast part of the property as the well has to be 50 feet from the septic system.

Allen proposed to the council to put a small addition on the back of the existing building for the well and to also accommodate more storage area as it is badly needed. Council discussed acquiring building quotes so the City can make a plan going forward and budgeting for the project for 2022.

Council approved a motion to put together a plan with measurements and quotes on building the addition.

In other council action:
• Approved a motion for a $100 donation to the Initiative Foundation;
• Tabled the rain gutter project for City Hall until the addition is completed;
• Learned the calcium chloride treatment has been completed on the roads;
• Will discuss the 2022 City budget at the September 7 council meeting.
