Manhattan Beach City Council January Highlights

The Manhattan Beach City Council approved the following list of City service providers at their January 7, 2014 meeting:

City Attorney, Virginia Knudson; City Engineer, Bolton & Menk, Inc. (As needed); City Accountant, Mathias Justin; City Insurance, Gerry Boe (Agent) LMCIT (Company); Authorized Newspaper for City Publication, Northland Press and City website; City Bank, Frandsen Bank & Trust; City Snow Removal, Luke Hanson; City Septic Inspections, Martin Joyce; and City Fire Protection, Crosslake Fire Dept.

Open Forum
Resident Larry Wannebo asked council about a trailer house on Wall Street that he thought was not following City Ordinances and asked that it be brought to the Planning & Zoning commission’s attention.

Unfinished Business
Mayor Paul Allen spoke about the Dobie situation and noted that the city attorney’s office notified the City that there was a conflict of interest with Mr. Dobie and also several other attorneys in the area and that the statute of limitations was coming up.

Mayor Allen asked the council’s opinion on moving forward with trying to collect the past due money owed to the City.

Council member Janis Allen made suggested that Mayor Allen start a small claims suit against Mr. Dobie on the City’s behalf. Mayor Allen suggested that he write a letter to Mr. Dobie stating the City’s intention and requesting a response from him within 30 days or the City would proceed with court action.

A motion carried that directs Mayor Allen send Mr. Dobie a letter with the city’s intention of pending court action.

The Manhattan Beach City Council meets the first Tuesday of every month at Manhattan Beach City Hall at 7:00 pm.
