Hunter Dies from Accidental Gunshot Wound

A seventy seven year old Minnetonka man died as a result of an accidental self inflicted gunshot wound on the morning of Nov. 7.

Itasca County Sheriff Pat Medure identified the victim as Daniel Otto Cermak. The incident was reported to the Sheriff’s Office at 8:47am.

Cermak was hunting approximately eleven miles north of Deer River west of State Highway 46 and north of Grouse Creek Rd in Bowstring Township.

The Sheriff stated Cermak was hunting with a 30-30 lever action rifle when it discharged and hit him in the chest. Cermak died at the scene.

An autopsy was scheduled for November 8, 2009.

The Sheriff’s Office was assisted at the scene by the Deer River Fire Department, Deer River Ambulance Service, and MN Conservation and State Patrol Officers.
