By Paul Boblett, Edtior

The Northern Lakes Lightning offense erupted for four goals in the third period as they defeated the visiting Silver Bay/Cook County Mariners 7-1 at the Hallet Center in Crosby Tuesday night.

Cody Chambers and Alec Fitch scored two goals apiece and goalie Tyler Carraway made 20 saves as Northern Lakes improved their record to 4-3 on the year.

“We played really well up and down the lineup,” said coach Shawn Chambers. “The second period was probably our best of the season. We missed a few passes and could have scored a few more goals.”

The Lighting took a 2-0 lead in the opening period on goals by Connor Chambers from Ray Nelson and Alec Fitch from Brady Roy and Collin Burke.

Jake Box found Cody Chambers alone in the slot for Chambers first tally of the night to up the lead to 3-0 in the second.

Box, Roy and Kyler Decent each had two assists. Jace Goodmanson, Ray Nelson, Cody ad Connor Chambers each had one.

Chris Smeija started the third period scoring before Sam Johnson, Fitch and Cody Chambers all scored in the final two minutes of the game.

Northern Lakes goaltender Tyler Carraway wasn’t tested often but was tough when he needed to be.
