Jordan Stroh’s second goal of the game at 6:45 of overtime lifted North Metro to a come from behind 3-2 win over the Northern Lakes Lightning on Saturday Dec. 5.

The overtime goal was Stroh’s second of the game and came on the power play, the Stars third of the game.

“We played a good game and I was very happy with the effort” said Lightning coach Shawn Chambers.

“Our penalty killing is a work in progress,” added Chambers. “We have only six returning players with varsity experience which was part of the reason they had three power play goals.”

The Lightning held leads of 1-0 and 2-1 but were unable to hold on in the third period as Ricci tied the game with just 45 seconds left.

Andrew Pitts’ goal spoiled the Lightning’s Tyler Heinlen’s apparent game winner just over one minute prior. Heinlen’s goal had given Northern Lakes a 2-1 lead with just under two minutes left in the game.

Chris Smeija opened the scoring with a power play goal at 7:23 of the second period to give the Lightning a 1-0 lead heading into the third period.

Stroh’s first goal tied the game at 1-1 at 11:11 of the third period.

Denver Monn, Cody Chambers and Collin Burke had assists for Northern Lakes, and Tyler Carraway made 32 saves for in his first action of the season.
