Lady Eagles Fall to Floodwood, Beat Hill City

By Paul Boblett, Editor

Polars 70, Eagles 56
The Northland Eagles suffered a 70-56 defeat at the hands of the Floodwood Polars last Tuesday night in Remer despite a 25 point, 10 rebound performanceby senior Kayla Heisler. Heisler  hit five of nine three pointers.

The Polars opened up an eightpoint lead at the half as Northland senior forward Camille Manders sat on the bench with three early fouls.

Manders hit seven of eight free throws and finished with 13 points before fouling out. Krystal Rajdl added eight points and grabbed nine boards but the Eagles committed 24 turnovers

“It was a disappointing loss, we knew we could play with them. They are a top contender in section 7A and it was a very a competitive game,” said Northland coach Jenny Kovall.

“We had too many unforced turnovers and our best defender (Manders) was on the bench with foul trouble for most of the first half. We have things to clean up but it’s still early in the season,” added Kovall.

Eagles 87, Hornets 58
Northland improved to 3-0 in the conference with an 87-58 win over rival Hill City. Heisler led Northland with 32 points, 11 rebounds and eight assists and Camille Manders bounced back with 22 points and 10 boards.

Krystal Rajdl just missed being the third Eagle with a double double scoring nine points and grabbing a season high 14 rebounds. Sierra Likens added 11 steals, eight points and four assists.

“It was great all around game by Kayla,” said Kovall. “More double- doubles and we were just a few points shy of every starter hitting double figures in scoring.”

Northland takes on the tough Nashwauk-Keewatin Spartans tonight before taking part in the Greenway Holiday tournament on Dec. 28-29.
