Northland Sixth Graders Receive Firearm Safety Training

Northland Community School District # 118, the US Army Corps of Engineers, MN DNR , USFS, and the USACE and local businesses and civic organizations have worked together for years to provide area youth with hunter safety training and education. Northland’s sixth grade students were given firearm safety training during the week of September 28th. The information was presented and the students were tested on the following: hunting laws and safety, hunter responsibility, hunter ethics, first aid and preparedness, wildlife conservation and regulations, transporting and carrying firearms, fundamentals of shooting, safe and effective shot selection, archery, muzzleloaders, and game care.

The students completed their training with a trip to the Thunder Lake Shooting Club in Remer where they participated in displaying appropriate firearm safety while walking a trail, and performance in archery and the firing range.

Many thanks to the volunteer instructors: Timm Rennecke, Jeff Kleinert, Larry Frances, Jason Hauser, Kent Ledermann, John Zahalka, Denny Ganz, and Terry Gross.
