Northland Co-coach Tim Vagle said, “After twenty days of practice it was great to actually play a game again. We hit the ball much better than the first time against [HC pitcher] Orie Bailey.” Eagles Devin Mulligan, Ryan Horner and Jake Seidenstricker each had two hits in the loss. Ryder Pepin was saddled with the loss, pitching five innings allowing nine runs, six of them earned. Pepin surrendered 7 hits while striking out 2. Tyler Datzman added a hit for the Eagles (0-3). Eagles Co-coach Tim Hasse commented, “We are a young team gaining invaluable experience with each game.” Bailey notched the win for the Hornets (3-3) pitching seven innings and striking out five. Pine River 9, Northland 2 The Tigers’ Andy Davidson drove in three runs and Jordan Ackerman pitched seven strong innings while striking out 8 as the Tigers defeated the Northland Eagles 9-2. Aaron Kemper, Devin Mulligan, Kevin Murphy and Ryan Horner managed the only hits off Ackerman in the loss. Mulligan and Horner each doubled. Kemper and Muillgan drove in runs for the Eagles. Tyler Datzman and Kevin Murphy pitched for Northland. Coach Vagle said, “Freshman Kevin Murphy came in for Tyler Datzman after Datzman took a line drive off his right elbow, and did a great job keeping Pine River off balance.” Coach Hasse added, “We are starting to see more hard hit balls, and when we start relaxing at the plate we will hit much better.” | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
