Aitkin Dyed in the Wool Spinners Visit Nisswa Pioneer Village

The Aitkin Dyed in the Wool Spinners demonstrated spinning and textile techniques at the Nisswa Pioneer Village last Saturday, June 21. Members answered questions on spinning and spinning wheels throughout the day.

The Dyed in the Wool Spinners have been spinning around Aitkin for over 20 years. Members who were spinning at the Nisswa Pioneer Village last Saturday included: Beth Delfs, Dianne Fulton, Sheryl Gormley, Rosemary Haack, Joan Haglund, Darlene Hofius, Audrey Johnson, Linda Larson, Audrey Mate', Linda Milton, and Becky Savey.

Members from the Baa-a-ckus Hare Razors and the Brainerd Wool gatherers were also on hand to show visitors how to spin wool into yarn.

Becky Savey (pictured on right) from Pine River has been spinning for 10 years. Becky said, "I love it, its fun and relaxing". Becky buys her wool from suppliers but many of the spinners raise the sheep and use their wool to spin. Becky originally started spinning with dog hair because she had a long haired dog and its hair was so soft. She never knitted that particular yarn but generally uses her yarn for knitted socks.

The three area groups meet monthly to spin and share their spinning stories.
