Outing Library receives large donation

Web posted April 10, 2018
By Paul Boblett, Editor

The Outing Volunteer Library recently received over 500 brand new books from author Bruce Lansky. Lansky has written over 200 books, and is the owner of Meadowbrook Press, a well-known publisher in Minnesota. The donation included multiple copies of many titles.

Carol Pierce of the Outing Library said that several books were shared with other local libraries including: Emily Library (25 titles), Remer Library (20 titles), Northland Schools library (20 titles), 29 titles were given to the Crosslake Area Library, 14 titles to the Crosslake Community School, 84 titles to the Hallett Library in Crosby, 8 titles to Crosby Elementary School, and 8 titles to the library in Longville.

The Outing Volunteer Library has one or more of every title on such subjects as children’s poetry, humor, parenting, pregnancy and childbirth, many baby name books, multiple types of party planning books, baby and wedding shower games and ideas, aging adults, meal-planning and recipe ideas for feeding toddlers, activity books, games, and ideas for all levels of young children, and many board books.

Pierce said, “It was a very wonderful donation to our community.” She said the library also received about 150 books from a retired writer for the New York Times from his personal collection.

“We are very fortunate to now have over 17,000 novels, non-fiction, children’s books from baby to teens, DVD’s, puzzles and games, and free Wi-Fi, plus computers for the public to use,” said Pierce. “We are blessed with wonderful donations all year long and greatly appreciate the huge support we have from our community.”

The Outing Volunteer library has no due dates, fines, or membership cards in order to simplify the loaning of their collection. Meetings may be held there and pre-schoolers are invited to participate in summer Saturday Storytime from Memorial Day to Labor Day at 10 am.

The Outing library is located in the Crooked Lake Town Hall Addition on the corner of State Highway 6 and Woods Bay Drive just north of downtown Outing.
